So here it is...</p><p><a href="https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/417-N-Park-Ave_Cuba_MO_65453_M74059-91997" target="_blank">Real Estate Listing</a><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>You can take a look if you would like. It definitely wasn't perfect but it had come a LONG way in the nearly 10 years we lived there. If you would like, take a look at some of my first posts to see how the ol' gal looked when we bought her to get a sense of what all took place. I hope to someday soon start blogging again about our new home....A home we have lived in for almost two years now. Some of it has made a transformation but not too much. There is a lot of updating to do and I hope to be able to share it all with you here. Don't hold me to that thought because I really don't get much time at all to blog or even do the updating to the house. Work....and health issues....are preventing me from doing what I love. Anyway. I hope you will go the link above and take a look at where the house was when we left it. Warning: they are the realtor's photos so not great. Enjoy!</p>Sheilahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18308451204015282108noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876156852642989414.post-74154299439213061782019-03-29T14:14:00.000-05:002019-03-29T14:31:35.975-05:00ORDERED A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR THE KITCHEN...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Yep, I did it!!!! I ordered this for the kitchen. Found it on sale....only $79.00.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have been wanting one of these for a LONG TIME!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Actually I kind of made one similar to this out the existing light fixture at the old house.....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cute, huh? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But I think this black one is going to look FABULOUS in the new house.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I can't wait til it arrives and I can sweet talk the hubs into wiring it up for me. The existing light fixture in the kitchen is well (some would say okay) but I think it's hideous.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Opinions? Yes, we all have them. Now don't judge the kitchen too harshly. This is from the real estate listing and we did just move in, so it needs a lot of updating yet. We'll get to it....yes, we will...probably MUCH sooner than the hubs thinks were going to get to it...hehehe</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anywayssssss, I guess this light fixture in there is just not my taste. To me it's not only somewhat outdated...it's just plain YUCK!!!!<br />
<br />
Knowing me, I will probably schmooose it up a little and sell it. Yes, that will come after I get my craft/project room all gussied up. </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

<br /></div>

<br /></div>

All I know is this one makes me happy and for $79.00 I can afford this kind of happiness. 😊 </div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
POOP BROWN!!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have to admit that I knew when we bought the house that this door would be my first paint project here.....because.....I absolutely loathe anything that remotely resembles POOP.....so I just couldn't help myself.....I really couldn't help myself....THIS HAD TO GO!!!!!</div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKkJldLQTibShJn-BmrwryZuz4yhC4xiENABkllBMrGGL609ntbWikSMcDoLtWkNwjiw8q1xN1_K8NJRnbjAIYYXG7N5EbzWp6xaPOoAEz9T6RZWxyc_IwccR0nWsbc6M1Y9T0K9G0nZWo/s1600/IMG_4678.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKkJldLQTibShJn-BmrwryZuz4yhC4xiENABkllBMrGGL609ntbWikSMcDoLtWkNwjiw8q1xN1_K8NJRnbjAIYYXG7N5EbzWp6xaPOoAEz9T6RZWxyc_IwccR0nWsbc6M1Y9T0K9G0nZWo/s640/IMG_4678.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I immediately started picking out paint swatches on my first trip to our new Lowes.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To even my surprise, I picked a bold, bright color....AMALFI by Sherwin Williams...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's SO VERY UNLIKE ME.....because I am usually very reserved with color!!!!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQlPHregTBN8NbBA6dA_KbafDA13LBzNzFtPB126XrVv7o7jTg8qnZf93JOAU_pwlzCIYnloVWigd_bhoiTOJ9XmftnfWbHR9_oouIS2oHqV8x27oLRuh2ALCt2VYwf9iuEz42xS_Hpue9/s1600/IMG_4679.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQlPHregTBN8NbBA6dA_KbafDA13LBzNzFtPB126XrVv7o7jTg8qnZf93JOAU_pwlzCIYnloVWigd_bhoiTOJ9XmftnfWbHR9_oouIS2oHqV8x27oLRuh2ALCt2VYwf9iuEz42xS_Hpue9/s640/IMG_4679.JPG" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This was just the first coat, and not even dry yet....</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br />
Instead of buying a quart at Lowes for this project I waited a few days....what me wait....heehehee....and picked up a sample pot at the Sherwin Williams store near where I work. The SW samples are almost a quart of paint and are only $6. Way cheaper than anywhere else for that much paint. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I gotta say, I am really loving the new color.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggqEedPZkTyO9BKpp9j6bGWRKdRalDcffGx7qbXfuKtk3IulT7c9MVMJVitGjSSiqY2Fh42tRDNgtTaQUKpvtBrIA-P5caM3UxtzVS4yfy0NJlsJgNAJhIkhht0d7AHNsW5ghl13gspQ5B/s1600/IMG_4683.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggqEedPZkTyO9BKpp9j6bGWRKdRalDcffGx7qbXfuKtk3IulT7c9MVMJVitGjSSiqY2Fh42tRDNgtTaQUKpvtBrIA-P5caM3UxtzVS4yfy0NJlsJgNAJhIkhht0d7AHNsW5ghl13gspQ5B/s640/IMG_4683.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I will say that the pictures are really not a true representation of the actual color. It's a fresh, vibrant blue with quite a bit more green than it looks here. It's kind of like a deep peacock blue. It's really beautiful.<br />
<br />
Yes, I know it's BOLD and BRIGHT....</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQaNsJkk4CopCHALKWSRsIENFpfNP75_aspGUatbaG6asvPtdtOwglAIf9zcY52IIQi00ye0gKuvw090NqgzYAug_MFevN__PPI7-H4fSUtFw57QfApUe5f-vZV4MsPUy5E39XvKvlBaI4/s1600/fixed+door.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1597" data-original-width="1199" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQaNsJkk4CopCHALKWSRsIENFpfNP75_aspGUatbaG6asvPtdtOwglAIf9zcY52IIQi00ye0gKuvw090NqgzYAug_MFevN__PPI7-H4fSUtFw57QfApUe5f-vZV4MsPUy5E39XvKvlBaI4/s640/fixed+door.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
BUT...I believe it's neutral enough that a nice green wreath is gonna pop and be so welcoming.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I think I am gonna add some cute "hello." lettering too. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, what do you think about AMALFI?</div>
</div>
Sheilahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18308451204015282108noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876156852642989414.post-7198375931421600442019-03-13T15:28:00.004-05:002019-03-14T12:15:11.277-05:00NEEDING A STITCH FIX...We just purchased the black leather sofa and loveseat a few weeks ago. We picked it out in the store and never noticed a problem. Once it was delivered I kept noticing that something just didn't seem quite right with the sofa and the one cushion was starting to look frumpy and more worn than the others in just a few days of use....but, I still couldn't put my finger on the problem...<br />
<br />
AND THEN I NOTICED IT...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid8dBeH1cidzpM4b8r5sXimZWbhtlYx-iXKqDF9Ywmr8X_cvphjZ6hIZzCBDztyHMyYz8vbP4cb8FpjeQYwhhsbjFSP5LJ6575YofjA7aOP4ZJfvAgikmuKienNr8IxfrZfBuBw8VWxU_4/s1600/close+up+couch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1115" data-original-width="1453" height="490" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid8dBeH1cidzpM4b8r5sXimZWbhtlYx-iXKqDF9Ywmr8X_cvphjZ6hIZzCBDztyHMyYz8vbP4cb8FpjeQYwhhsbjFSP5LJ6575YofjA7aOP4ZJfvAgikmuKienNr8IxfrZfBuBw8VWxU_4/s640/close+up+couch.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Do you see what's wrong? <br />
<br />
Here take a closer look....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbSL5mYC0kWW99HluObZ66YfsDVEdpjkqm5JH3gBuyMH2ENkBQN9v2k-onzcBuJVvvaEiiDN3d_dWVi64k1J12nBINnNpCWBa6H5oolxMG9evQ9BtsYDZ81s6a-hj9BFDuGaKFLBljfQny/s1600/close+up+couch+2+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="426" data-original-width="819" height="332" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbSL5mYC0kWW99HluObZ66YfsDVEdpjkqm5JH3gBuyMH2ENkBQN9v2k-onzcBuJVvvaEiiDN3d_dWVi64k1J12nBINnNpCWBa6H5oolxMG9evQ9BtsYDZ81s6a-hj9BFDuGaKFLBljfQny/s640/close+up+couch+2+%25281%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Do you see it now?<br />
<br />
Yes, the right cushion is missing the stitching around the top....I can't believe my OCD didn't catch this at the store....hehehe....SO....I immediately called the furniture store and they were so nice to order me a replacement cover. I hope to have it in the next few weeks.<br />
<br />
Just goes to show ya that even though it's new doesn't mean it's perfect.....keep your eyes peeled folks....KEEP.YOUR.EYES.PEELED!!! :)<br />
<br />
<br />Sheilahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18308451204015282108noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876156852642989414.post-41023023818872376392019-03-12T16:52:00.002-05:002019-03-12T16:52:08.059-05:00THE BEGINNINGS OF A FARMHOUSE STYLE LIVING ROOM...So the first thing you see when you step inside the front door of our new house is......no surprise....the living room...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDrYUopHl_lz3r5NRZqoPLBKiFCz2UMieb112BOQ4ybTVDuwSqRKklxd9qdhftReZsWiUpZKMTvbchBcQ7GEBgm5HeGMVHm-lLTD_soDF5SUTu_kMXP-hVa8_Neey_G75LJfANFLnQP2sZ/s1600/living+room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="360" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDrYUopHl_lz3r5NRZqoPLBKiFCz2UMieb112BOQ4ybTVDuwSqRKklxd9qdhftReZsWiUpZKMTvbchBcQ7GEBgm5HeGMVHm-lLTD_soDF5SUTu_kMXP-hVa8_Neey_G75LJfANFLnQP2sZ/s640/living+room.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's not huge, but I love it. Even though there is only one window (and a beautiful window it is, though most would say it's outdated) there is plenty of natural light.<br />
<br />
I decided I wanted to go SIMPLE in this room...well the whole house really.... <br />
<br />
I want bright, casual, easy and comfortable....no fuss and no frills, with no real colors to speak of or worry about. I want a clean palette that takes care of itself with no hard and horrible decisions to make when it comes to choosing paint colors, finishes and fixtures.<br />
<br />
I decided on a simple black and white modern farmhouse style.<br />
<br />
I was fortunate that the wonderful couple who purchased our little vintage house wanted our existing living room and dining room furniture and all the decorations with the house. It gave me the opportunity to buy new furniture and decor for this house. YAY ME!!!!!<br />
<br />
I decided on a gorgeous white entertainment cabinet and a super comfortable black leather sofa and loveseat to fill the room (I think I chose black furniture this time because of all the guff the hubs gave me over the white slipcovered Ikea Ektorp I had...:)). He hated that thing, thought I was REALLLLLLY stupid for buying a white sofa with kids....and reminded me of how dumb he thought I was daily. On the days I had to wash the covers he really gave me grief, but I digress...hehehe.<br />
<br />
Anyway....<br />

(I guess I could've at least picked up the dog's toy before taking the picture, huh....doh stupid me. hehehe.)<br />
<br />
The black recliner was a freebie and I painted my old drum table white and put it in the corner.<br />
<br />
The big ottoman and little clock table next to the recliner were flea market finds at REALLY good prices.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Well I think you can clearly see who the queen of the house is...<br />
<br />
Yes she's my girl and she is spoiled ROTTEN. She surely rules the roost around here. <br />
<br />
I found the gorgeous (yet somewhat humorous) highland cow print at the furniture store and just couldn't pass it up....if anything says farmhouse....that's it!!!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
AND...last but not least...I found the black and white cowhide online at Cowhides Direct and it was larger and cheaper than even Ikea's hide rugs. If you want a cowhide...a real cowhide..at incredible prices...check them out!!!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I think it really grounds the space and finishes it off nicely. Don't you?'<br />
<br />
With the exception of getting a few more accessories and a new light fixture in here, all I have to do is paint...oh yes, this room NEEEEEEDS paint. Hopefully that will happen once the weather turns from Winter to Spring for good. I'm going with a crisp, clean and slightly warm white...Alabaster by Sherwin Williams.<br />
<br />
I'm not going to do any kind of shiplap or other wall treatment like everyone else is doing. That's just more tedious and more work than I want to go through at this point. Besides, it's trendy and would do too much damage to the existing drywall when and if I decided to remove it in the future....AND, I believe I can achieve the modern farmhouse look without all that.<br />
<br />

<br />
Yep you heard that right, the ol' girl sold. I blame it all on the gorgeous kitchen and bathroom remodels we did. Everyone who looked at it loved it and one lucky couple bought it.<br />
<br />
Since the hubs got a new job in Saint Robert near the army base, an hour away from Cuba, we needed to get something closer to his job and mine....and we closed on a new house in Saint Robert February 1, 2019. Thus we have STARTED A NEW CHAPTER....on TURKEY LANE....<br />
<br />
SOOOO, I don't know...I might change the name of the blog to...TURKEY LANE...OR, maybe not. Hehehe.<br />
<br />
Anyway, for right now all I have to show you is the real estate listing (just click on the picture) but I hope to be showing updates to our new (yet somewhat dated) home soon. While I will be taking the updating slow...VERY SLOW...because we are tired of remodeling and just want to relax and enjoy life for a while....I will be doing some painting and decorating in the meantime....all of which I hope to share with you here....of course, I have very good intentions, but that's at least what I PLAN to do...hehe...so keep your eyes peeled...mmkay.<br />
<br />
Without further ado here is our new house on TURKEY LANE...<br />

Been forever I know. Sadly I don't really blog anymore. For one there's not much going on on the home front...at least not in the home decor/design area anyway. I have been working on a little "tiny home" for the sis...a small camper home...or small glamper should I say. I started working on it this past fall right up into the winter but it got too cold to get the rest of it done. I only have just a few little things left to do though so I hope to be able to share that with you soon.<br />
<br />
This post on the other hand is about the kitchen...kind of a short product review post really. I just wanted to share with you all the ins and outs and likes and dislikes of my product choices from our remodel last year. Pay attention because this might help you in the event you are planning a kitchen remodel of your own.<br />
<br />
Let me start by saying that I love my kitchen. It's beautiful and so easy to work in now...which was the total reason for remodeling in the first place, so I can't complain there!!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCi3NxWD8Bd7VUWRzbJ-OW-PPgfiigWh_FL48wn9hYaI8dOMWG31xlFQZrMHLr9nhZiwlu-viBWKU60tvh-Cpu7GE-WH-23g6-po_tbgSQInBpDgM1de2LnBuett1dCrdtSd3RJ3uJZfEP/s1600/kitchen+full+on+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCi3NxWD8Bd7VUWRzbJ-OW-PPgfiigWh_FL48wn9hYaI8dOMWG31xlFQZrMHLr9nhZiwlu-viBWKU60tvh-Cpu7GE-WH-23g6-po_tbgSQInBpDgM1de2LnBuett1dCrdtSd3RJ3uJZfEP/s640/kitchen+full+on+%25281%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
However, I made a few product choices that I am not too thrilled with...One being the kitchen sink, another being the kitchen faucet, and the open shelving unit...with that said it's not that those items are bad or poor quality, but it is to say that if I had to do it all again, I would not choose them and here's why...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheSSj3OlcW_lQ4i-c_9FPrmRjIhusiRCwke9VbdovvWcst02L_vjMxjli-LiknO_NYJ8R1SDuu9ZGwOVnwsGsu4bZsMTyfrOTkKYKx0FXuW2GOwIt1NvASyGgRXIac9NwrUW-YO_tSvEd2/s1600/IMG_4505.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheSSj3OlcW_lQ4i-c_9FPrmRjIhusiRCwke9VbdovvWcst02L_vjMxjli-LiknO_NYJ8R1SDuu9ZGwOVnwsGsu4bZsMTyfrOTkKYKx0FXuW2GOwIt1NvASyGgRXIac9NwrUW-YO_tSvEd2/s640/IMG_4505.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
THE KITCHEN SINK---I chose a deep bowl double sided under mount stainless steel sink with stainless steel bottom grates. With that said, It's beautiful and definitely DEEP, which brings me to the reason I would not get this type of sink again. It's just too deep. I thought I would love that feature (and for the most part I do) but as it turns out, it's hard on my back, neck and arms reaching over the counter and down...WAY DOWN...into the sink when doing dishes and such. My biggest peave about this sink though is that it's a BEAR to clean....taking out the grates, washing the sides and bottom and then trying to dry it all out so there are no water spots and putting the grates back in....yeah, a lot of days all that don't get done...Just sayin'...but I like a clean sink so that part is super frustrating to me. I do however love that one side of the sink has a big, deep basket strainer to catch all those bits of food and such so they don't go down the drain.<br />
<br />
If I had it to do again, I would probably go for an apron front farmhouse type sink. Double bowl of course. That was my original plan for this kitchen but I had to get everything from Home Depot and they did not have one that would work at the time so this was the next best thing.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLCGBqloJRUYua8Z_2R0FB3TQ41P_1rTzXA6N2dEtzKrqf8o_JZz0oekbTLnazThYvI6mCRyhESgKVyOLGtYyUOmvwGjMr75pvcT88am91nDemitNWJHpAyU4YRtaRvM8pGRy7tyFplCXx/s1600/IMG_4503.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLCGBqloJRUYua8Z_2R0FB3TQ41P_1rTzXA6N2dEtzKrqf8o_JZz0oekbTLnazThYvI6mCRyhESgKVyOLGtYyUOmvwGjMr75pvcT88am91nDemitNWJHpAyU4YRtaRvM8pGRy7tyFplCXx/s640/IMG_4503.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
THE KITCHEN FAUCET---This is a love hate item. I love the look of the faucet but not the functionality. This is an item I ordered from Home Depot online and had delivered sight unseen. I assumed that because it looked as if it had a pull out sprayer hose that it did. However, it does not (which is probably why I hate trying to clean the sink out so much...the faucet head does not reach to where the dirt is)...See my unclean sink is all the faucets fault!!! LOL. No really, the head does come out of the bracket but it cannot be pulled down into the sink. It's NOT flexible which I absolutely hate. If I would have known that it only looked like it had a " pull down sprayer hose" but didn't, I would never have purchased this!!!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
If I had to do this one over again I would have checked the product out better to make absolutely sure it had a pull out sprayer hose because you really NEED one when you have a deep bowl sink!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy4MqrgoY43jOVwBF3m5UsEjiAErMVauJ8gKiAgo0MayKfHyJV4CSksQD7CePaMf4FwkiShu85gMwarICROee5ph2ydp0Sut3aRFVG4AVgT56f44FwptKoz0sQqhhYQMe61lpSU4d76mwB/s1600/IMG_4510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy4MqrgoY43jOVwBF3m5UsEjiAErMVauJ8gKiAgo0MayKfHyJV4CSksQD7CePaMf4FwkiShu85gMwarICROee5ph2ydp0Sut3aRFVG4AVgT56f44FwptKoz0sQqhhYQMe61lpSU4d76mwB/s640/IMG_4510.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
THE OPEN SHELVES---Okay, it's all the rage nowadays to have open shelves in the kitchen and I must say that I do love the look....and, I do want open shelves in my kitchen...just not these open shelves. Why? Again I ordered these online, sight unseen and they were...cough, cough...VERY EXPENSIVE. I picked them because again I liked the look. I wanted the rustic, industrial look with the iron pipe brackets and gorgeous wood planks...however, the functionality of these stink. Being a first time open shelf picker outer I didn't realize that I would only be getting use of about half of each shelf because of the style and placement of the bracket. I am losing about 10 inches of surface area on each shelf.. This wall is only 27 inches wide so I am only getting about 16-17 inches of usable space on each shelf. Also, these stick out away from the wall about 4-5 inches which means I can't prop anything (like a sign or plate, etc.) against the wall. Over all these particular shelves are a total waste of space in my small kitchen...and a total waste of money!!!! <br />
<br />
If I had to do it again, with everything I know now about opening shelving, I would have made my own. I would have made something that functioned better and would've spent a LOT less money in the process.<br />
<br />

<br />
Now I had not mentioned the Hampton Bay White Shaker Style cabinets to this point but, I also have a love hate relationship with them. I do love how they look and for the most part I love how they work, but since I opted for more drawer storage instead of regular door front cabinets I feel that I have actually lost a lot of much needed space with these Hampton Bay brand cabinets. Here's why.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdL-9IGNbIvh_OfzDE85Bnra1wdsKtV634dKq14BriS8AqEeYJtBDQ_cNcTfKy1WhaYgtkgqgK3-bFdHeN2DLlPXTn5ZMFADdIglx3Qmkzsb4FwzK6yxMUCi5yMaRM3iVbvuEIlB4m0_wR/s1600/cabinets+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdL-9IGNbIvh_OfzDE85Bnra1wdsKtV634dKq14BriS8AqEeYJtBDQ_cNcTfKy1WhaYgtkgqgK3-bFdHeN2DLlPXTn5ZMFADdIglx3Qmkzsb4FwzK6yxMUCi5yMaRM3iVbvuEIlB4m0_wR/s640/cabinets+3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The drawers though they look deep, are pretty shallow and the drawers boxes themselves are smaller...WAY SMALLER...than the cabinet base. We are losing tons of much needed space with these...at least 8-12 cubit inches per drawer. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzaBo4lcI-8egHSENC1-fpELdvHaIsVU5RKPZqre_1GsUDK4CxBM8YP4CnGsskyi0VDqema_mO6yVfVJ1_yvqawB4CBXgjdsXhw42bHinnL5wvMTB6HXrNIqVd3mb4eKlDF3I7dRhGO33C/s1600/IMG_4514.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzaBo4lcI-8egHSENC1-fpELdvHaIsVU5RKPZqre_1GsUDK4CxBM8YP4CnGsskyi0VDqema_mO6yVfVJ1_yvqawB4CBXgjdsXhw42bHinnL5wvMTB6HXrNIqVd3mb4eKlDF3I7dRhGO33C/s640/IMG_4514.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEEmDS5m2lXAL4KPuWFnTaETIpWx2T7j5rfo7FhbOVCcHTFgdBYPV32e_kG2G0F-zUAlyhVHIN3ewJ9Zgu0En3V_DgVXwOiaC-5d85MnsZmKrN9cCXf32hY_WRihGhd5OMglZixM_2hED0/s1600/IMG_4512.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEEmDS5m2lXAL4KPuWFnTaETIpWx2T7j5rfo7FhbOVCcHTFgdBYPV32e_kG2G0F-zUAlyhVHIN3ewJ9Zgu0En3V_DgVXwOiaC-5d85MnsZmKrN9cCXf32hY_WRihGhd5OMglZixM_2hED0/s640/IMG_4512.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
However I will point out that not all drawer cabinets are like mine. There are plenty of drawer cabinet brands out there where the drawer box is actually as big as the drawer front and base of the cabinet itself. Ikea for one sells drawer base cabinets like that, and several other cabinet makers have them as well. So, if I had to do it again, I would definitely check out the dimensions of the drawers better before ordering.<br />
<br />
Now with all that said, none of this was to complain. Mainly it was to help YOU in making better decisions when and if you should ever decide to remodel your kitchen. I can say without a doubt that I still absolutely love my kitchen and am so grateful for such a nice space to cook in. This post was just to say that I would make better or...DIFFERENT...choices on some things if I had to do it all over again. It's kind of a "you live and you learn" type thing as you truly do not know how something is going to function until you have had the opportunity to use it and I want to steer you clear of making some of my same mistakes. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmxxbWMs3OAuaMB_QwzxJOz8v7Bya_eR-3OMuCMiLRy1JhoyyCMWWj5pcvFXOjxCwj4pTKni3yFbCPkiv24KF2etpRsOU5Xt6CNi97gDa6ps6HxgiJV-WfZ9zDoKPBZ8HcDM63UW1grV-b/s1600/IMG_4508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmxxbWMs3OAuaMB_QwzxJOz8v7Bya_eR-3OMuCMiLRy1JhoyyCMWWj5pcvFXOjxCwj4pTKni3yFbCPkiv24KF2etpRsOU5Xt6CNi97gDa6ps6HxgiJV-WfZ9zDoKPBZ8HcDM63UW1grV-b/s640/IMG_4508.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One thing I do not regret is my decision to splurge on quartz countertops. They were expensive but well worth the money. They are strong, durable, stain resistant and maintenance free. If I ever remodel another kitchen....GOD FORBID...I will definitely choose quartz again!!!!! I love it!!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZL0yncNoGS8g5l6pe-tD4znv1OXcQkhoPZlZeYMqlPkx7QqFnpGtcXnnD1IVZCeXJQAUK0uY-q3RVjvxroTqpq4sAl6skYWRXNgKP_978SVoHaF7Ii2XOXCE7deGADLQMybWrfg-8q18U/s1600/cabinets+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZL0yncNoGS8g5l6pe-tD4znv1OXcQkhoPZlZeYMqlPkx7QqFnpGtcXnnD1IVZCeXJQAUK0uY-q3RVjvxroTqpq4sAl6skYWRXNgKP_978SVoHaF7Ii2XOXCE7deGADLQMybWrfg-8q18U/s640/cabinets+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Another thing I do not regret is my stainless steel appliances, especially my gas stove. Yes they were more expensive than white or even black appliances but I absolutely love them. They were well worth the money. Though you can SEE the smudges and fingerprints more with stainless...the smooth surface makes them really pretty easy to clean...WAY EASIER than the "bumpy surfaced" white ones. Besides, stainless just looks so much better. <br />
<br />
So while I would definitely make a few different choices if I had to do it all again, I am still very happy over all with my new kitchen. I love cooking now and that's what matters!!!<br />
<br />

Yeah, I really don't blog much anymore. :( ....as I am usually on Facebook. I will occasionally post on here though as we do more to the house. It's really slow going right now. Things will probably pick up though because we will be starting on Sis's tiny house this fall. I plan to post updates on it. Anyway.............................................<br />
<br />
The reason for this post is not about blogging it is about the problem with some of my pictures on this here blog. I used to use Photobucket to edit and post my photos. That was a while back but all of the pictures I posted on here that were edited in Photobucket have been disabled from showing up on my blog. They have changed and are no longer a free hosting service and are wanting $400 a year for their services. I will not be paying that so my old photos will no longer show up on the blog. I am sorry for that. I could possibly go back and recover the pictures because they are still in my account on Photobucket but I really would have no clue where each of them belong on the blog so I am afraid it just isn't going to happen and I am totally ticked at Photobucket for this complete and udder disaster.<br />
<br />
With that said, I apologize for the inconvenience and I also want to let you know that this will not happen with any future posts because I have my own editing software and load all my photos from disk now. <br />
<br />
Until next time. Have a fabulous day!!!<br />

I know it's been a long time coming so today's the day....well sorta...I can't say this is the full and final reveal...but it's a good start. I am not finished accessorizing and really have not had time to get the professional camera out and do a full photo shoot so some of these are little grainy. Maybe in a few weeks I can get some better pictures. Until then I leave you with this...<br />

<br />
<br />
I love the big drawers for storage. You just pull them open and can see everything and get to everything easily. Trust me this is WAY better than having to dig for things or crawl into the cabinet trying to find what you need like we used to do. <br />
<br />
On a little side note, the china cabinet is for sale so it will not be staying. I am sad to see it go because I hunted for one this particular style for a VERY, VERY long time it was something I really wanted. There's just no room for it now. :-(<br />
<br />
On the brighter side, I love my new kitchen so much that I don't mind not having room for the china cabinet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One of our favorite cabinets in the new kitchen is the cabinet with cube storage. Home Depot didn't have a pantry option for the specific size we needed for that side of the fridge so we rigged something up using small wall cabinets and cube storage towers. It worked out great and we love the extra storage for snacks....like I need snacks....hehe. <br />
<br />
It even has some wine storage...or in our case...soda storage...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I still have to gather some things together for my new open shelves baking station so I will show all that later.<br />
<br />
Well for the most part, there's the new kitchen. This is by far the biggest but best project we have ever done. We love our new kitchen and the openness of the space now. Coming home from work and cooking dinner in this house used to be a dread. Now it's a joy! I am so glad we decided to do this.<br />

Sorry I cannot show that yet but I promise it will be soon. We have been super busy...as always happens around this time of year...with extra things going on at church and with family so every Saturday (weekend) is pretty much a bust to get things done at home. That's just the way it goes sometimes! I did get a chance to work on blinging up the overhead light fixture in the kitchen though. YAY!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFNGBXls34Nc_b0Ar4JsJhWlsclDAJijviZcjtDSGU8XRfYKjCSHrI-SQujpKuWklL-YtCtunFdhLxwWfVucp78qLz6wLGoe2aK3w_QSZoO0q9vTAkY0d_eSu8kX1S1pBSomG-a10i40CK/s1600/bling+light+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFNGBXls34Nc_b0Ar4JsJhWlsclDAJijviZcjtDSGU8XRfYKjCSHrI-SQujpKuWklL-YtCtunFdhLxwWfVucp78qLz6wLGoe2aK3w_QSZoO0q9vTAkY0d_eSu8kX1S1pBSomG-a10i40CK/s640/bling+light+4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The whole light fixture thing was somewhat of a debate. My SIL thought I should replace the old vintage light fixture (since I was replacing everything else) with something a little more fancy...to kind of go along with the chandelier in the dining room...and at first the hubs did too....UNTIL...he realized it would be him doing all the work to take the old fixture down and put a new one up. Then suddenly the old light fixture was plenty good enough. LOL!! <br />
<br />
Truthfully...AND ODDLY...I wanted to keep the old fixture. It's original to this old house and the old bell type fixtures are back in style....farmhouse style...so there was no need to replace it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPJnkfW1JfUdLcOsZ1BfK7Z6XR_frRkz50A6Ge88o5B3tCYtdAhLK4vAQViKsbJqM0uGznUBgEQz8s7ZAZ-LEneIXGQpyAGaMPnCHjyNmGaeTLwJmK4t4u-R-nli5pwtC5MEyyFrpb_Q-x/s1600/light+fixture.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPJnkfW1JfUdLcOsZ1BfK7Z6XR_frRkz50A6Ge88o5B3tCYtdAhLK4vAQViKsbJqM0uGznUBgEQz8s7ZAZ-LEneIXGQpyAGaMPnCHjyNmGaeTLwJmK4t4u-R-nli5pwtC5MEyyFrpb_Q-x/s640/light+fixture.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We saved some moolah too so that's good but, I didn't think it would hurt to add a little bling to it...You know, to make my SIL happy and add a little blingy fanciness to the kitchen because it really does need something to tone down the industrial vibe I ended up with. Plus, I figured a little bling never hurt anything!!!! <br />
<br />
This is kind of what I had in mind except for without the white crackle look...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://images.beautifulhalo.com/images/400x400/201512/E/white-crackled-iron-single-light-crystal-pendant-light-with-dome-shade_1451549455123.jpg" /></div>
<br />
<br />
The original chrome shade works better for me...though I could paint it later on if I need to. <br />
<br />
I had a ton of leftover beads from stringing the dining room chandy so I used those and an old trivet similar to the one below that I found at the thrift store for $1 to add all my bling to the fixture without having to take it down....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<br />
<br />
The hubs cut out the center ring of the trivet so it would fit around the globe of the light fixture, then I propped it on a soda bottle to make it easier to hang the strands of beads on...<br />
<br />

<br />
After looking at this I think I went a little sparse on beads but I mainly wanted to make sure this was going to work out before putting myself through any more work in it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZDOF6VV8zXvzOyeE3ZV2BUGlMUXuKOq4AhEE-oKq6xm3WZ-AK9ya2A0_eSWsuEEtjekj-yPKAbI0s6BhviKXA-PvsXCrLSM5kt_mmFcz6gtbDPc7Shss2JqtIlna5aptrsYnb-7zmmlPp/s1600/bling+light+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZDOF6VV8zXvzOyeE3ZV2BUGlMUXuKOq4AhEE-oKq6xm3WZ-AK9ya2A0_eSWsuEEtjekj-yPKAbI0s6BhviKXA-PvsXCrLSM5kt_mmFcz6gtbDPc7Shss2JqtIlna5aptrsYnb-7zmmlPp/s640/bling+light+2.jpg" width="574" /></a></div>
<br />
It worked great and I will be sure to add plenty more beads when I replace the frosted glass globe for a clear one later on. I am officially on the hunt for a clear globe. I hope it don't take me too long to find what I am looking for.<br />
<br />
Well I guess that's it for today. I will be back soon with the full reveal....I PROMISE!!!!<br />

Boy am I on a roll...lol.<br />
<br />
I charged my phone and was able to access the pictures of the counter top installation so I figured I would just go ahead and share instead of leave you hangin'.<br />
<br />
I have to say it was a very interesting process. We ordered the stone through Home Depot and Home Depot in Manchester, Missouri subcontracts Hallmark Stone in Fenton, MO to do their installs. I have to say from start to finish I was VERY impressed with Hallmark. They made the install painless and were a pleasure to work with. I can't thank them enough for treating us so well.<br />
<br />
They came out the first time and made a template for the counters...which like a dummy I didn't take any pictures of. SORRY!!!<br />
<br />
Two weeks later they came out and installed the custom cut quartz slabs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPaYXd_Hxd6AbWqWhjOPcJzOAWqpnaUiroisGumUYyEVKSTRFQ0okwiWZIPA7fpyTk2IxalfzsX9qdImELaV5XbR47M3Tz6h8MM07b14wWKWCAx4LiaeJUfpx9KDon2_pdkTDXDT9Tk3Hh/s1600/countertops+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPaYXd_Hxd6AbWqWhjOPcJzOAWqpnaUiroisGumUYyEVKSTRFQ0okwiWZIPA7fpyTk2IxalfzsX9qdImELaV5XbR47M3Tz6h8MM07b14wWKWCAx4LiaeJUfpx9KDon2_pdkTDXDT9Tk3Hh/s640/countertops+004.jpg" width="546" /></a></div>
<br />
The stone is so heavy they had to bring the slabs in the house on a cart.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Once inside the house it took two of them to set them in place and if the truth be told they probably could have used a third or fourth person.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
All I can say is I hope these guys get paid good. They deserve it. Not only did the set the countertops in place. They installed my undermount sink, put in the bracket for the dishwasher and caulked everything. Now that is service. It's rare to find or get that kind of service these days. <br />
<br />
I think the most impressive part in the whole thing is that the template guys were only at the house for about 30-45 minutes, maybe and hour and did PERFECT templating...and the cut stone was just as perfect...even where they had to notch out for the part of the wall we had to leave in on the peninsula. I really can't praise Hallmark Stone enough for a job well done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkLj2NFEOKbH19MPKT-b3O2kWq-9a2tstZ1yD3kqph0tZlUEvr46GVD5bwqJ9-P0lsdtnvkglwYjWg0JdEaVXOzccvVVcX5yYohyBv7-TMMQKeqp3wToi-VFEVBKwIp0Vb5r3d24_YqJmi/s1600/countertops+011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkLj2NFEOKbH19MPKT-b3O2kWq-9a2tstZ1yD3kqph0tZlUEvr46GVD5bwqJ9-P0lsdtnvkglwYjWg0JdEaVXOzccvVVcX5yYohyBv7-TMMQKeqp3wToi-VFEVBKwIp0Vb5r3d24_YqJmi/s640/countertops+011.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I can't tell you how much I love them. Not only are they gorgeous but easy to use. Quartz is the most popular material of choice right now for countertops....even more so than granite. They are maintenance free and shouldn't stain, etch or scratch.<br />
<br />
I'm tellin' ya, this is a dream come true for me. I hope they are worth the money...nearly $3000....GULP!!!! I KNOW, RIGHT? But they should last forever and since I went with a classic marble design they should never become outdated either. <br />
<br />
Well there you have it....Silestone White Arabesque Quartz...fully installed and beautiful.<br />
<br />

As a matter of fact I still have not taken pics. The ones you are going to see today are from the hubs' phone...which means they aren't very good. :). <br />
<br />
As you know the counters were installed a week ago this past Friday. It was a very exciting day to say the least. I took pics of the installation but I will have to share those later because they are on my phone....which is dead at the moment. LOL. <br />
<br />
Anyway, without further ado, here are a few pics of the counters and backsplash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqHLAm_Y3DQbYjytOg5YETchWuiYZEAmHnJ0alSgd2PYoK_DUFTz-4Uy8VIsDHTXqtr5GRPk8ARCPW7Iy5bw6Op2VszPFXqInLS7islmITnmADGbZ9fHoHQSFpiub39XDYsQL27AyHJFPH/s1600/17353256_10206471816512554_943846520644462797_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqHLAm_Y3DQbYjytOg5YETchWuiYZEAmHnJ0alSgd2PYoK_DUFTz-4Uy8VIsDHTXqtr5GRPk8ARCPW7Iy5bw6Op2VszPFXqInLS7islmITnmADGbZ9fHoHQSFpiub39XDYsQL27AyHJFPH/s640/17353256_10206471816512554_943846520644462797_n.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I still have to grout. I started last night and got about halfway done and ran out of grout...I bought the premixed which was probably a mistake. It said it would cover 50 sq. ft. Well, I don't know how they measure sq. ft. but it only covered about 8 of my sq. ft....so now I have to make another trip to the store. Yay me!<br />
<br />
The counters are White Arabesque Quartz from Silestone and they are GORGEOUS!!! Best choice ever! Hallmark Stone in Fenton, Missouri templated and installed and I can't say well enough about them. They were super nice and did an awesome job. The templating process took about an hour and then the install took about another hour. Super fast and I have to tell you I was impressed with everything from start to finish. I would definitely recommend them to anyone putting stone counters in. Okay so enough about that....<br />
<br />
They installed the undermount sink while they were there and then hubs installed the faucet and stuff. It's really great to having running water again. I missed it much.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
One...just one...of my favorite parts that we did in this kitchen was install an outlet with USB ports. It was expensive $26 but well worth it as I know it will be used A LOT!!! Really there is no excuse for my cell phone to be dead right now. Ooooops!!!! Hehe<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Well with the counters in place we are now COOKING in this kitchen. Cooking with GAS! It's been great and with the layout and design of this kitchen now I have plenty of prep space.<br />
<br />

<br />
Maybe in the future I will share some cooking videos. That would be fun!! I have just a few finishing touches...some painting mainly...and this kitchen remodel will be done. YAY!!!<br />
<br />
I will be sure to share pretty full view pics as soon as I get everything finished up. <br />
<br />
Until then, have a fantastic life.<br />

We got the last of the cabinets installed and pretty much all the appliances in too. Let me just tell ya, getting the fridge in the house was a nightmare. Not only was it the coldest and windiest night of the year, at midnight we were taking the door off the house and still had some issues with the screen door as well. What a complete mess....definitely not something I want to do again. Haha...but we got it in and all is well!<br />
<br />
Anyway, all we really have left to do on our part until the countertops go in on Friday is some finishing work. Lots of caulking and painting. O JOY!!! Once the counters go in we can install the backsplash, sink, faucet and dishwasher and this kitchen remodel will be DONE!!! Yay!.<br />
<br />
Now my kitchen is very small and very specific when it comes to measurements for things like cabinets on the refrigerator side of the room. I wanted to have a pantry on either side of the fridge but there were limited size options for pantries in the Hampton Bay line of cabinets so I only had enough room for one pantry...with about 12" of space left over so I had to get creative when it came to making everything fit and had to do somewhat of a custom build on the one side of the fridge. I used a couple 12" cabinets, some cube systems and a whole lot of trim but I think once it's all painted out, it's gonna look nice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGAhxUW1B3VUQgD18vtOYUMcFqBlXkUibyWuYCcOXr-q71rVX2wRqj7yJSyM2t-0rpbVCqS2mBLqEWHDXHF_a8iW1dV4yj7eePP23thTQm5pVdLl_0PgA5NNcInJ_2Z46c_3nss8yNkdsA/s1600/fridge+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGAhxUW1B3VUQgD18vtOYUMcFqBlXkUibyWuYCcOXr-q71rVX2wRqj7yJSyM2t-0rpbVCqS2mBLqEWHDXHF_a8iW1dV4yj7eePP23thTQm5pVdLl_0PgA5NNcInJ_2Z46c_3nss8yNkdsA/s640/fridge+side.jpg" width="530" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I had a hard time finding baskets in the size and color I wanted but I think these cute Ikat print bins will work out just fine, though they are a little smaller than what I wanted. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiun81_R6MqDqUvJraxJTAmjNS0GwBK29uxEC5StOs8mZNUjRhwaMCfARYAT_-i6SJo3Y-u5SPciOCbIcsqr-RZqe0f2TTV7BblM-Ks9CHED_gndZNv_34BjPmJTcI362XeqIaf46IThBkr/s1600/baskets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiun81_R6MqDqUvJraxJTAmjNS0GwBK29uxEC5StOs8mZNUjRhwaMCfARYAT_-i6SJo3Y-u5SPciOCbIcsqr-RZqe0f2TTV7BblM-Ks9CHED_gndZNv_34BjPmJTcI362XeqIaf46IThBkr/s640/baskets.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
They will hold things like bread, snacks, etc. and I think we are going to like using them.<br />
<br />
We got the toekicks on and most of the hardware installed over the weekend.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I still have to put knobs on the cabinet doors which will only take a few minutes. <br />
<br />
We got the peninsula finished out too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht561_ndg2P7TgN_p50rQdCrkqBJ5LqcQXn2mQe1ZxyeE5Gwvqwp5lwkDUYvlnQXMQhwHjJ8vkIFDAmvJlI6_jvK5eGovalvg7Z1h41mD_JK-zHWcP_1ZNqTxvYq11jpu7rJ0BfT7YzrvU/s1600/peninsula.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht561_ndg2P7TgN_p50rQdCrkqBJ5LqcQXn2mQe1ZxyeE5Gwvqwp5lwkDUYvlnQXMQhwHjJ8vkIFDAmvJlI6_jvK5eGovalvg7Z1h41mD_JK-zHWcP_1ZNqTxvYq11jpu7rJ0BfT7YzrvU/s640/peninsula.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I trimmed it out in the shaker style to kind of mimic the cabinets.I really like how it turned out. Now<br />
all that's left to do there is some painting. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqhD3a5u_VTQGoqVuesBFehpgOUHjufOBSyyrIxKrMDbyfigM3rxw9Kbnwe1doB30RAxdjlSuq_0VHG1plVjxg_rKYrNuvvSNkvSdX-3RM40vFTOYzO7tGYy_W-e0vqu6jPgHflc0tMoQp/s1600/fridge+side+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqhD3a5u_VTQGoqVuesBFehpgOUHjufOBSyyrIxKrMDbyfigM3rxw9Kbnwe1doB30RAxdjlSuq_0VHG1plVjxg_rKYrNuvvSNkvSdX-3RM40vFTOYzO7tGYy_W-e0vqu6jPgHflc0tMoQp/s640/fridge+side+2.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Well that's it for now. I probably won't be back until everything is finished which I hope to be next Monday or Tuesday.<br />
<br />
Though this is something I have wanted to do for a long time, I will be SOOOOOO glad to get this job behind us. It's looking really good and I can't wait to start using this kitchen. <br />
<br />
What do you think out first meal should be? Any recipe suggestions?<br />

They are the Urban Renewal Rustic Iron mini pendant by Feiss. I think they probably hang down just a little too low but we really only had a couple of choices in length...either too short or too long. I liked the longer look better so that's what we went with.<br />

<br />
While we are on the subject of lighting, I haven't decided whether or not I want to replace the original light hanging in the center of the room with something else or if I want to keep what's there. The hubs and his sister seem to think I should get something new but I am kind of partial to the original fixture and may just try to find a way to bling it up a little. Not sure yet. What do you think I should do? Get something new or keep what's there?<br />
<br />
In other news, you may have noticed that we finished installing the rest of the base cabinets the other night. We haven't put the doors on because of plumbing work that needs to be done for the sink. The stove will be installed tonight, and the Silestone Quartz guys will be here in the morning to measure for countertops. Yay!!!!<br />
<br />
We still cabinets to install on the refrigerator side of the room and we will be picking up the new fridge Saturday. I think I can safely say we will be wrapping this project up in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait!!<br />
<br />
Well, like I said a short mini post, but that's pretty much it for today.<br />
<br />
I will be sure to keep you updated.<br />
<br />

Phase two is now underway. We had a long weekend so we got some things done...not as much as I was hoping...but quite a bit nonetheless. <br />
<br />
Friday was spent trimming out the entry way, ripping, staining and hanging luan plywood on the accent wall, and then installing window trim. There was a LOT of measuring, marking, cutting and nailing going on Friday. While I believe a master carpenter could have gotten this done a lot faster, this was an all day job for the hubs and I. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgydBdjOFbkhDmlTuYBDsTrvqVG0pVn0Kr7_pxOlPC_Isru2Una0p52PmMXiDSYHHQ03I-iAoXClXIgpXO0i0X73fxLuIA_4aRa6bZUq18uHUL8X60uaTTg5jwxsXbiT7IubU2s6srRcLDI/s1600/window+trim.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="610" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgydBdjOFbkhDmlTuYBDsTrvqVG0pVn0Kr7_pxOlPC_Isru2Una0p52PmMXiDSYHHQ03I-iAoXClXIgpXO0i0X73fxLuIA_4aRa6bZUq18uHUL8X60uaTTg5jwxsXbiT7IubU2s6srRcLDI/s640/window+trim.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We took a break on Saturday from any carpentry work because we had to make a trip to Home Depot to pick up our appliances. The orders got messed up and they couldn't deliver them to the house. Figures, right? I guess that worked out to be a good thing because I decided not to take the refrigerator I had ordered. I didn't realize it would stick out from the wall nearly 40 inches....WAY TOO BIG...so I decided to go ahead and order a counter depth fridge instead. The hubs was kind of miffed and said we should just take the one I had ordered while it was there...BUT...I figured it's better to go through the extra wait time and frustration now then to be unhappy and miserable with a fridge that juts out into the room too far. We are only doing this once so I want to make sure I am happy with the end result.<br />
<br />
We are working on a deadline to get the cabinets installed as we already ordered the countertops and the company needs to come out and take measurements; so, Sunday we started placing and installing the wall cabinets. They were pretty easy to hang, level and screw in. We were lucky to have studs pretty much where we needed them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5pj19c3ps6eYClS3kopFugd8_5TVEISO4YcHj6nodUgECO0fEa6HBSzNDh14WyVPxGXp4EZu4AVFH-17FFJLVyvLF_m1rsKi_itMZpnnK4duR-8izrQ8vpjdxE9AobWUaGt7IdoZ3MORc/s1600/IMG_4070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5pj19c3ps6eYClS3kopFugd8_5TVEISO4YcHj6nodUgECO0fEa6HBSzNDh14WyVPxGXp4EZu4AVFH-17FFJLVyvLF_m1rsKi_itMZpnnK4duR-8izrQ8vpjdxE9AobWUaGt7IdoZ3MORc/s640/IMG_4070.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Once those were up the hubs decided that we should install the microwave before we placed any of the base cabinets. I agreed, so we unpacked the microwave, read the installation instructions and hung the bracket. That part was pretty easy but then we needed to put the charcoal filter into the microwave. Things went downhill from there. We couldn't get the little door off to insert the filter. It took over an hour for us to pry it off and we were afraid of breaking it. There would be nothing worse than taring up a brand new (expensive) microwave. We finally broke the door loose and installed the filter but then had trouble getting the little door back on right. That took another 1/2 hour. I'm telling you we were both about to pull our hair out. I can't understand why the company didn't just install the filter when they were assembling the dumb microwave in the first place. Go figure. It's like they decided to purposefully make it hard on the consumer. <br />
<br />
Next we had to tape the paper template to the underside of the cabinet to drill the holes to hang the microwave. It was nearly impossible to get that X@#X$% piece of paper to stick to the underside of the cabinet right...so let's just say that my patience was wearing quite thin and I probably mumbled...or perhaps screamed...a few vulgarities and then had to repent. Ooops!!! Again, I can't understand why the company didn't make the template where you could simply lay it inside the cabinet and drill down to make the needed holes. It would make more sense that way!! These companies make everything so difficult!!!! Anyway, altogether it took about 4 hours just to hang the stupid microwave. After that we put up our tools and called it a day! <br />

<br />
<br />
Yesterday we installed some of the base cabinets. It was another long and problem laden day...that included a really funny incident with the shut off valve on the cold water pipe coming open and spraying the hubs in the face...and wetting half the kitchen down. Hehehe!! Besides that, we did manage to get the peninsula cabinets installed and the open shelves hung.<br />

The wall opening we created has been drywalled, taped, mudded, sanded and painted.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWDN8oGw-sBZeNsQ8nbRDj1S6h3yK4V0I8WwMjWEk4knzSH7-xeYZzDb2rEPvlSf0GEKT5u57vyFJ-A67f8hKWvSeGNFpM4FkOGcxaz_oM7XqiNbcCBHV3_lHerZJqK831Jd9o4k540akv/s1600/IMG_4062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWDN8oGw-sBZeNsQ8nbRDj1S6h3yK4V0I8WwMjWEk4knzSH7-xeYZzDb2rEPvlSf0GEKT5u57vyFJ-A67f8hKWvSeGNFpM4FkOGcxaz_oM7XqiNbcCBHV3_lHerZJqK831Jd9o4k540akv/s640/IMG_4062.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I am not a professional drywaller but I think I did a pretty good job. Most of the surround will be covered in trim anyway, so no one will notice the imperfections in my work on that. I did make sure the exposed areas were nice and tidy. ;)<br />
<br />
I did not install any trim like I was planning because I have pretty much decided it was best to do all that last. We need to get the cabinets and counters in place before the one side of the opening can be finished, so it was just best to wait on all the trim work.<br />
<br />
Some GREAT news is that all the carpenter glue came off the hardwood floors we uncovered. We used super hot water and a buffer with sanding screen...That's it, no chemicals and no scraping or scrubbing. I couldn't believe it!!! It worked like a charm and now we are ready to give it all a final sand and then we will stain and seal it. I am SUPER THRILLED this all worked as I really did not want to use laminate.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The windows we ordered came in the other day and we got them installed this week. I am SUPER, SUPER EXCITED about these. They are double hung windows, which mean both the top and bottom windows tilt in for cleaning. I can't express enough how happy that makes me. Cleaning our 78 year old windows....running in and out of the house and climbing up and down the latter...and spending A WHOLE DAY cleaning windows is a serious drag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These will make that job SOOOO much easier! <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We purchased the Hampton Bay prefinished white shaker style cabinets from Home Depot. They are GORGEOUS. I wish I had a better picture to show you but we have not unpacked any of them yet. <br />
<br />
I only wish we were ready to install them but, we still have lots to do. The main thing holding us up is getting the floors finished. We will be working on that over the weekend and hopefully we will be ready to install the cabinets by next weekend. We shall see!<br />
<br />
Anyway, I will be sure to keep you updated.<br />
<br />
Ciao,<br />

<br />
Okay, so I knew when we embarked on this project that it was going to be long and tedious. What I didn't know is that I would be sick the whole time. The dust from taking down the wall between the dining room and kitchen has caused me to have a permanent sinus headache. I have had a non stop headache for nearly three weeks now. Not even kidding. I even missed a day of work over it. Seriously!! I keep telling myself that it will all be worth it in the end. Just seeing the openness of that space has made a huge difference in this house already and I can't wait to see how it all comes together from here.<br />
<br />
Since having this headache, it has seemed very difficult to get motivated in getting stuff done but we are moving forward if ever so slowly. I have drywalled and patched the new opening and will be painting and trimming it out soon. Yay. Perhaps the dust will finally settle down once that is done. I hope!!!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We took the cabinets out earlier this week, with the exception of the one the vent hood is attached to. It will go bye, bye soon and you may have noticed the refrigerator has been moved into the dining room. That's always a nice look, right? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJtQneEvzK10HyiduqTt0s_SG_QYdvldEEzxsDeoiGLzrfzfIsFe3rgNmuuq6T19W2-2Rw8nvqmBF9-r4QE0f70f2skdlDjKsjj1vuXCtVftslyUcFwSQoDcRPxGEqN87-OLm7EeeLBMwE/s1600/IMG_4048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJtQneEvzK10HyiduqTt0s_SG_QYdvldEEzxsDeoiGLzrfzfIsFe3rgNmuuq6T19W2-2Rw8nvqmBF9-r4QE0f70f2skdlDjKsjj1vuXCtVftslyUcFwSQoDcRPxGEqN87-OLm7EeeLBMwE/s640/IMG_4048.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We also ripped out the old flooring because the tiles were popping up and because we noticed there were hardwoods under the backer board. I was super, super excited about that. I figured we could just refinish the hardwoods and save $400.00 to boot by returning the new flooring we purchased. Plus, the floors would have one continuous flow throughout which is what I really wanted....BUT...there's always a BUT, isn't there? We discovered that the backer board under the tile had not only been nailed down with eighteen billion, three hundred million nails, but it had been glued down as well. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpf9GTpgwIFLNbF74oHyvMHBN9o540IdyyJu_AWh38pk7vHpU643j1hMe_XoChUwYLu-NWLUY-ITHhE5DmdQpilBomcmhnVIb7reGEW3mnerPTQHdPoV9B_7A4P7_2S0P_ezPFmFjE6c_H/s1600/IMG_4051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpf9GTpgwIFLNbF74oHyvMHBN9o540IdyyJu_AWh38pk7vHpU643j1hMe_XoChUwYLu-NWLUY-ITHhE5DmdQpilBomcmhnVIb7reGEW3mnerPTQHdPoV9B_7A4P7_2S0P_ezPFmFjE6c_H/s640/IMG_4051.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Yep, construction adhesive all over the hardwoods...and I do mean ALL OVER...the whole floor is coated with it...SO...I'm not sure the hardwoods can be refinished....BUMMER....we are going to give it a try though. Can anyone say....MORE DUST!!!! Oh my aching head!! Maybe we should just go ahead and use the new flooring we purchased.<br />
<br />
Whatever we do, it better be quick because I just got word the new cabinets will be arriving in 5 days and the new appliances in 12. I guess we better kick it into high gear and get moving on this thing!!<br />
<br />
No doubt, this kitchen is at its worst right now, but then again with any of these types of projects, it always gets worse before it gets better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We are at the part now where its going to start getting better....YAY!!!....ummm, because it literally can't get any worse. Hahaha. <br />
<br />
See you next week with another update. <br />
<br />
Ciao,<br />

It was gorgeous and I was hoping to get a good amount of work done on the kitchen remodel; but, we had to make a run to Home Depot Friday evening to pick up our flooring order and then I had play practice Saturday and church on Sunday which pretty much took up the entire weekend. Needless to say I didn't get as much done on the kitchen as I had hoped.<br />
<br />
I wanted to have the wall completely out, have the new drywall up and have everything trimmed out but no such luck. We did however manage to get the wall completely removed and header in place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi13jSMuYy8Zvp39Nsgt-CcOPhrl3mv35v6oHwY1LndtjPuEDkxTIl7aeJ898MH1fwleVuZ4gRxTaZ6FyvhIYp1KA2TvoXuFIbo1wKD9CGaJPbksPeJToZDefLo6TlVG7spPmUolvxE1wQB/s1600/IMG_4040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi13jSMuYy8Zvp39Nsgt-CcOPhrl3mv35v6oHwY1LndtjPuEDkxTIl7aeJ898MH1fwleVuZ4gRxTaZ6FyvhIYp1KA2TvoXuFIbo1wKD9CGaJPbksPeJToZDefLo6TlVG7spPmUolvxE1wQB/s640/IMG_4040.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now that was a feat in itself!!! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjabsOxY4-ol9zulZ5W_WDMEmiAVNorBuyCuTn5IZ16pjj0yMKgl8Lb6gE3ijLdfOLUNBTIYKrJXg57mG5IgLD8U-0drOZFEMVyfrweEzeVMRtOzjAy6Y2X0hhEOu6wLiIOXEc6dAznm8kI/s1600/IMG_4042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjabsOxY4-ol9zulZ5W_WDMEmiAVNorBuyCuTn5IZ16pjj0yMKgl8Lb6gE3ijLdfOLUNBTIYKrJXg57mG5IgLD8U-0drOZFEMVyfrweEzeVMRtOzjAy6Y2X0hhEOu6wLiIOXEc6dAznm8kI/s640/IMG_4042.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The header weighed about a bazillion lbs. and it was just me and hubs lifting it into place. I have to say I am SO RELIEVED that part is done though we still have some leveling to do. I can tell you the rest of this remodel will be a piece of cake in comparison to getting that wall out! I was on pins and needles and sick to my stomach the whole time until that header was installed. The fear of the house collapsing on top of us was unnerving!!!!! Anyway, that part is done and I am so thankful to have it out of the way.<br />
<br />
Next on the list is finishing out the opening, tearing out the cabinets, removing the old appliances and installing the new flooring. <br />
<br />
I will be back as soon as I can with updates. Hope to see you soon.<br />
<br />
Ciao,<br />

Had a long weekend...icy weekend...with some power outages. Thankfully the outages were mostly at night when we were snuggled under the blankets and didn't have to worry about heat too much. UGH!. Have I ever told you that winter is NOT my favorite time of year...but I guess I shouldn't complain because I did get an extra day off work. YAY!!<br />
<br />
Now any normal person would relax and snuggle up in front of the fireplace with a good book and take it easy over a long wintry weekend, right? Well not us...we were busy....really busy doing this...<br />

<br />
Yes, we started tearing down that wall between the kitchen and dining room.<br />
<br />
Now you would think this would be an easy job...and it would have been...if we had a normal house that was put together with a little drywall; but, we DO NOT have a normal house!!! There is nothing normal about it!! Our walls are plaster...can anyone say MESSY! Yes, this was the messiest job we have tackled to date...and the biggest one. <br />
<br />
THERE IS DUST EV.ERY.WHERE!!!!!!!...THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE HOUSE...EVEN THOUGH WE HAD THE ROOM SEALED OFF!! <br />
<br />
There is electrical wires to move and come to find out a heater duct too; plus, this is a loading bearing wall that will require a header beam. YAY ME!!!<br />
<br />
We should have that all done by the end of the week and then we will tackle all the trim work and I will show you an updated picture of the wall removed in the next post.<br />
<br />
You know, I THINK I MUST BE CRAZY!!!...removing a wall...gutting the entire kitchen...BUT THERE IS NO TURNING BACK NOW!!<br />
<br />
On the bright side, I will have a new kitchen when all is said and done.<br />
<br />
I am going for this look....<br />

I finally and hesitantly entered the world of Facebook and it has just been a whole lot easier to post little nuggets there than do a whole big blog post here. However, I had taken a long hiatus from FB for the holidays and have decided that I like the virtual peace and quiet so much that I may get off the FB train for good....or at least for a while.<br />
<br />
I have found that I really don't like knowing everyone's day to day business or their opinions about every.single.thing.in.the.whole.wide.world. Is that bad? I especially don't like those posts that asks everyone to like, share or comment on every.single.thing they like or dislike. I am one who generally keeps my opinions to myself and I like it that way. So, other than the keeping in contact with close family members to see what's up in their world, I will probably not be seen on FB much at all. Whew!! Now that I have gotten that off my chest, lets get on with more important stuff....like what's going on at Beyond the Portico.<br />
<br />
We decorated...we had Christmas...we undecorated....YAY!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Hahaha...<br />
<br />
No really, I do have a few Christmas pics to share with you today. As usual I loved Christmas...BUT so very GLAD IT'S OVER and that all the decorations are put away!!! The house is pretty much back to normal and it feels good. Glad to have made it through another year...WHOOOO HOOO!!!.<br />
<br />
I will also share here some of our future plans on the house since it didn't sell this past year. Yes I was terribly disappointed it didn't sell and that I didn't get my house in the country, but I am completely okay with staying put....so long as we make a few updates.<br />
<br />
So now without further ado here's a little look at Christmas 2016 for us...<br />
<br />
A peak at the dining room first...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3ui88pR3K-wcN0Zh6fy0iQqWhD05FQcYoyTn7mjkxu-X6ERrlicLTNYSkfYGMiuW1g3UMt04DQaUugOO_gdCk3yswU2KqgIGJVQTI2O0fnH4OPlpzjyIfvcUQ_pgeVfZ4OGA93E8HLzn/s1600/Christmas+dining+room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3ui88pR3K-wcN0Zh6fy0iQqWhD05FQcYoyTn7mjkxu-X6ERrlicLTNYSkfYGMiuW1g3UMt04DQaUugOO_gdCk3yswU2KqgIGJVQTI2O0fnH4OPlpzjyIfvcUQ_pgeVfZ4OGA93E8HLzn/s640/Christmas+dining+room.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to put Bambi on the table and I used some left over greens from the real Douglas Fir tree we put up in the living room to make a nice large centerpiece. <br />
<br />
This years tree...7 ft. Douglas fir<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Jv3oSY0kcOoPzF4sSoZcOU_GbK6VukgaseKUSj_IuI39PjNYdd8g7z29DsmMh4eFQ_eX34AM2P3YS6LmK8pclC_WevtbEaBpMPTMwX5fbRXzTrd8nh2vK6KG0aNQjDxQQcUoDAOYNKe-/s1600/tree+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Jv3oSY0kcOoPzF4sSoZcOU_GbK6VukgaseKUSj_IuI39PjNYdd8g7z29DsmMh4eFQ_eX34AM2P3YS6LmK8pclC_WevtbEaBpMPTMwX5fbRXzTrd8nh2vK6KG0aNQjDxQQcUoDAOYNKe-/s640/tree+2.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<br />
So glad we went with the Douglas Fir instead of the Scotch pine this year. The needles were SOOO much softer to the touch and it was totally gorgeous.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I am totally ashamed that I never got around to putting a tree skirt around her. UGH! The mantel turned out lovely though...<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
You may notice a "special" stocking there. It was for the kitties...I figured they "needed" a few toys for Christmas since they had to be banished to the basement for most of the holidays to prevent them from climbing...and knocking over...the tree. LOL. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGfzIEKJ6V80ojAxMNWjBiyabyRGkj-cM6JvEpmjN_qnDThTaelxeHb6-rUe7hBc_fGsZnt3XY4pOUFWRkFP1vmIFJbOb2LjF_4xyDsqh0Nw-g-z94OjiPXuCe_0rzaEEGTAD0WuMRMd7b/s1600/living+rm+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGfzIEKJ6V80ojAxMNWjBiyabyRGkj-cM6JvEpmjN_qnDThTaelxeHb6-rUe7hBc_fGsZnt3XY4pOUFWRkFP1vmIFJbOb2LjF_4xyDsqh0Nw-g-z94OjiPXuCe_0rzaEEGTAD0WuMRMd7b/s640/living+rm+1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Notice the new sliding barn door in that pic? Yes? The hubs and I built a pair of sliding barn doors to hang on the wall over the sofa a few months back. I hesitate to tell you why, but what the hay...<br />
<br />
The hubs decided (demanded) to bring the TV we use for games up out of the basement. I have been FIGHTING him tooth and nail on this; because, for one TV's are completely UGLY and for two, there was really no suitable place to put a TV in our tiny living room.<br />
<br />
For 6 years he has thought of EVERY possible place for the thing, including putting it inside the fire box...which he tried at one time....it did make a good YouTube crackling fire for those cold winter nights....Hehehe...remember this? (Christmas 2014)...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTiv52YqkKfndhgXz4KYFeI7H2_roNnODzf-FIFzvBcs2Nr1q9ODE8L6UH_mBkciDLaxD-wv_rXOLkhbWREhuwr1vO3UVSBq9LphhWRgQdZPaOdbcV5utliROhSjRf7RDlzw1NaLwmNLs/s640/tree+and+mantel.jpg" /></div>
<br />
<br />
Oh yes, the fire looked good but otherwise this was SOOOO RIDICULOUS!!! <br />
<br />
When the firebox wasn't working out he wanted me to get rid of my horse painting (which is normally there)...and the sconces...so he could put it on top the mantel...by which I REFUSED!!!! I mean really, the sconces are hard wired and leaving two big holes in the wall was not an option...PERIOD...and especially not for a big ol' TV!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Anyway, he was getting super angry and frustrated after 6 long years of not being able to comfortably relax in our living room...and then when the house didn't sell...and the opportunity for a more accommodating living room fell through...I had to compromise with him...after all this is his house too...and retiring every evening to the dank, dark, unfinished basement to play games is a big bummer for everyone. So...I gave in and said he could hang it on the wall behind the sofa where the big mirror was.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuF7mZ0w9G4BXNC6YtgHlhA4eUMx39GWvEEC_fpBJdqo__9HQZPPUNW0B8K0pSRUtmo3pmYH-0thZYtK-lOOGedrzH3jgcurcBoAoR_MvzQ4jYd2yTah0qL1SFP19do87YoEjUxOaujoEU/s640/Living+Rm.+3.jpg" /></div>
<br />
<br />
It was the only possible place it would work out...my only demand was that we had to do something to make it look "good", disguise it or hide it...or all of the above...so the gorgeous barn doors...which go so well with my horse picture...were built and installed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGfzIEKJ6V80ojAxMNWjBiyabyRGkj-cM6JvEpmjN_qnDThTaelxeHb6-rUe7hBc_fGsZnt3XY4pOUFWRkFP1vmIFJbOb2LjF_4xyDsqh0Nw-g-z94OjiPXuCe_0rzaEEGTAD0WuMRMd7b/s1600/living+rm+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGfzIEKJ6V80ojAxMNWjBiyabyRGkj-cM6JvEpmjN_qnDThTaelxeHb6-rUe7hBc_fGsZnt3XY4pOUFWRkFP1vmIFJbOb2LjF_4xyDsqh0Nw-g-z94OjiPXuCe_0rzaEEGTAD0WuMRMd7b/s640/living+rm+1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
They're not perfect but then again does a barn door have to be perfect? No! We did an awesome job on these though and in my opinion they look GREAT. I will share full pics of them soon!!!<br />
<br />
Now for future house plans (that will hopefully be accomplished this year)...we are going to knock down the wall between the kitchen and dining room (which is load bearing by the way....can anyone say SCARY)!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_lZll9IuuB8I81Xo2r2TFWtHWKSAa7mKX1lFE6OFrqURwrOMbTYP3WWGzkfdChbr0ioMpVqkP8vmaGXsFToWgEezdukqxrhDPkn-0aNPghY45fqM9Y83yMse5V1tsGYoMeDq9dXmpv2dG/s1600/Dining+Rm..jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_lZll9IuuB8I81Xo2r2TFWtHWKSAa7mKX1lFE6OFrqURwrOMbTYP3WWGzkfdChbr0ioMpVqkP8vmaGXsFToWgEezdukqxrhDPkn-0aNPghY45fqM9Y83yMse5V1tsGYoMeDq9dXmpv2dG/s640/Dining+Rm..jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then we are going to gut the entire kitchen and remodel. I have figured out a plan that will give us more counter space and a proper work triangle...something this house DESPERATELY needs. I see quartz counter tops, cute tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances in 2017. Wish us luck! WE ARE GOING TO NEED IT as we are DIYing ALL of it. However we will probably not begin this project until warm weather because we will be eating a lot of meals outside off the grill. Hehe.<br />
<br />
We are also going to try doing as much of this project as we can without taking out a big loan...not sure how that's going to work but we are going to take every penny that ain't nailed down for other things to accomplish this.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I will be back later this month with views of the barn doors and the new kitchen layout for you to oogle over. <br />
<br />
Ciao for now!<br />

We gave her the master bedroom and we took the bedroom upstairs. Well, all that has changed again. She is now back upstairs and we are on the main floor.<br />
<br />
We gave sis our old bedroom furniture because we didn't want to have to haul it downstairs...that sleigh bed is a real beast...not even kidding. She really didn't want our old stuff but it is best for the time being...especially since she is not willing to fork out her own hard earned money for what she wants...hahaha. <br />
<br />
Anyway, sis has wanted a nautical themed room for a while...actually she changes her mind about as much as I do...so about the time I get done with her room she'll be wanting something else....LOL....so I decided to try and use what I could find at home to add a little nautical flair to her "new" room without spending a bunch of money. I didn't have much and what I did have is more beachy/coastal than nautical but it's better than nothing and I like how it's turning out.<br />
<br />
We still have lots of accessorizing to do. I need some shells and driftwood to accessorize the bedside tables and I would like to either sand the furniture down to bare wood for a light driftwood beachy vibe or paint it white, but that's probably not going to happen for a while. That's more hard work than I want to engage in right now.<br />
<br />
Also I will be making a pallet art sign for over the headboard that she wants...which will say "JESUS ANCHOR OF MY SOUL"....but now without further ado let me show you a few pics...<br />

<br />
<br />
We used the white ruffle bedding and aqua sheets she already had. I added a couple Pottery Barn pillows that I found at the thrift store for $1 each. <br />
<br />
Of course you know from my last post that I made the faux capiz shell chandy. I think that's my favorite thing so far.<br />
<br />
<br />

While I was at it, I gave the landing a little makeover. It's not coastal but it is in keeping with the coastal color palette I have been using upstairs...aquas, whites and grays.<br />
<br />
<br />

Now I need to do a little work to the master bedroom. Ugh...just thinking about it makes me tired. HEHE. Anyway, when I get some of those things done I will share.<br />

Just as I was getting ready to share this DIY faux capiz shell chandy, I realized my camera card reader was missing. I had to order a new one.<br />
<br />
Anyway, here is a somewhat short tutorial in case you want to make one of these GORGEOUS faux capiz shell chandys for yourself...or a friend...or just because they are so stinkin' gorgeous...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So how do you make one of these lovelies you ask?<br />
<br />
First, find yourself a couple embroidery hoops in two or three different sizes...depending on how many tiers you want. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcDk-XVeM6qQ3zugD8AQPSheePNndUBn7-BMhjCZbNen7V3AWw06S844D25bQ32a0TUWgqdjE1WSGAb80nd3vPevgKfG2ZZAzco3-hfa7QipxK9bG-J0thcCv42qdhXvhOAv7CQo_MxZbU/s1600/IMG_3650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcDk-XVeM6qQ3zugD8AQPSheePNndUBn7-BMhjCZbNen7V3AWw06S844D25bQ32a0TUWgqdjE1WSGAb80nd3vPevgKfG2ZZAzco3-hfa7QipxK9bG-J0thcCv42qdhXvhOAv7CQo_MxZbU/s640/IMG_3650.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I used three different sizes...12", 9" & 5" and wrapped them in jute twine for a truly coastal look...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifXUWq1ehSH6bUrTak8TJ2X_XgZRaBnFdLGhyphenhyphennKmxV4Jp0c21YD-UraFDmO5lV7aNm9arZn4ysnuHIaHw7hybtiP74AHYAKDiB7crWQul0UtodN33wkwLFg7F7zQJWBx7e8VvriBKF69jb/s1600/IMG_3653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifXUWq1ehSH6bUrTak8TJ2X_XgZRaBnFdLGhyphenhyphennKmxV4Jp0c21YD-UraFDmO5lV7aNm9arZn4ysnuHIaHw7hybtiP74AHYAKDiB7crWQul0UtodN33wkwLFg7F7zQJWBx7e8VvriBKF69jb/s640/IMG_3653.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
or if you are looking for something easier than spending hours wrapping them...get out some spray paint. <br />
<br />
I left extra long strings of jute twine coming down off the largest hoop so I could tie my smaller hoops to it to form a base to hang all my "capiz" shells from so I would get my tiered effect.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Once I had the base done it was time to make the shells...using WAX PAPER...A little note...the wax paper from dollar tree WILL NOT work. It must be Reynolds brand or similar. The nice thing about wax paper is that it is cheap everywhere. The Reynolds brand was only $1.34 at Walmart. You will most likely need 2 boxes.<br />
<br />
Stack 3 to 4 sheets of wax paper together and iron on low heat until they fuse together...briefly touch the iron to paper...you do not have to hold it in place. Move the iron around until everything is fused.<br />

<br />
Once you have several sets of stacked, ironed paper it's time to make "shells" from it. I wanted round shells in 2" and 1" sizes. I already had circle punches at home to make them. However, if you do not have any punches available you can simply cut the paper into squares.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhga5fybKlEK16gzPD1_eyJM3ivforExcb5gdg6URnG4Kkv1yKzuiIEQFcg8qUqlT6iOM_OLeb_ISC0gIpkN1blXGD4e89QnRiW5gZvm1i5CHGdjvJLNtO2GgyzwZWdpaVYw7VWn5zLQnLt/s1600/wax+circles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhga5fybKlEK16gzPD1_eyJM3ivforExcb5gdg6URnG4Kkv1yKzuiIEQFcg8qUqlT6iOM_OLeb_ISC0gIpkN1blXGD4e89QnRiW5gZvm1i5CHGdjvJLNtO2GgyzwZWdpaVYw7VWn5zLQnLt/s640/wax+circles.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I will just say that you are going to need A LOT of circles (squares, etc.)...my project took about 250 more or less to finish.<br />
<br />
Once you have all your "shells" sew them together with a straight stitch with your sewing machine. This is easy and doesn't take long at all. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTLvoejH1ODiNpqnPyO7ZFfXuPUitlclFfU-G9aW9-I9EwGDZ836xr4mimQe2C0oJus6J2mRjvjAkPw5ZovkNtiR-FI-qDp3GlO-IP8S-oXZkhyphenhyphene9ZBFgd1qPhPBphOZDdAaWjJH0WBiO/s1600/wax+paper+sewed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTLvoejH1ODiNpqnPyO7ZFfXuPUitlclFfU-G9aW9-I9EwGDZ836xr4mimQe2C0oJus6J2mRjvjAkPw5ZovkNtiR-FI-qDp3GlO-IP8S-oXZkhyphenhyphene9ZBFgd1qPhPBphOZDdAaWjJH0WBiO/s640/wax+paper+sewed.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Next I cut my strands into 5 shell lengths and hot glued the 5 shell lengths 1" apart onto my jute twine chandelier base starting at the bottom of the base.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6K9mxJ0DZNbyicvd0s1h6nPv_fYin3U146smV5DIhrmxT4_CwBKceimcXDPM7X9GaftiPVt1IDq5aurfvifvBWN1SO6ChgSN5TSCc-C6hAcl-nWw_Ccez-kUeKUYAKRGMnwmRyapUS0HS/s1600/gluing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6K9mxJ0DZNbyicvd0s1h6nPv_fYin3U146smV5DIhrmxT4_CwBKceimcXDPM7X9GaftiPVt1IDq5aurfvifvBWN1SO6ChgSN5TSCc-C6hAcl-nWw_Ccez-kUeKUYAKRGMnwmRyapUS0HS/s640/gluing.jpg" width="462" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Keep gluing until the whole base is covered with shells.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD9s-aHuaQmaEPWN6mK5KCKw98MQj7_HJCNWOBs4LIPBDenYOuGqZRQ8cA5pl3OKPG6EkQgikqgNAK4ABP3yxhVYjVIw_i8R6ujm-CkAcZEJ2OkJPCnznvVVtz_RXJlRIMqLap-0e9esiB/s1600/glue+done.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD9s-aHuaQmaEPWN6mK5KCKw98MQj7_HJCNWOBs4LIPBDenYOuGqZRQ8cA5pl3OKPG6EkQgikqgNAK4ABP3yxhVYjVIw_i8R6ujm-CkAcZEJ2OkJPCnznvVVtz_RXJlRIMqLap-0e9esiB/s640/glue+done.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
That's it!!<br />
<br />
Using more twine secure your Capiz Shell Chandelier to your ceiling light fixture and you're DONE.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOS9tYaGoKSdpAkAM_2wegMrtbcfIm_iSXSVjauwzs4-ADWBwhl_KrF6rZwWzgkr9xJL8LZRRifhqQ2d3FhT3WgQR26mRUIpj2XJ4cZopovND3vUw_4IDY1kz6UKzPcifThkZmHLjOeBXk/s1600/light.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOS9tYaGoKSdpAkAM_2wegMrtbcfIm_iSXSVjauwzs4-ADWBwhl_KrF6rZwWzgkr9xJL8LZRRifhqQ2d3FhT3WgQR26mRUIpj2XJ4cZopovND3vUw_4IDY1kz6UKzPcifThkZmHLjOeBXk/s640/light.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Super easy...though somewhat time consuming...and CHEAP. This whole project cost me less than $5.<br />
<br />
I found my embroidery hoops at a thrift store for .25 each. $1.35 roll for wax paper and $1 for spool of twine.<br />
<br />
Now go out and make one of these beauties!!<br />
<br />
Ciao,<br />

If you will remember, a few years ago we moved Sis to the master bedroom and moved our room upstairs. For various reasons (like the hubs doesn't want to travel upstairs to go to bed every night) we decided it was time for the hubs and I to have our room on the main floor and send Sis back upstairs. Since we didn't want the work of moving all the furniture around we gave Sis our old bedroom outfit and got something new to replace her old stuff...I will share that with you once I repaint and get some new bedding. <br />
<br />
In the meantime I have been looking for some new light fixtures. I will be making a faux capix shell chandy for Sis' room (as soon as I find the time to sit down and do it) and I am looking for a lantern style fixture for the master. <br />
<br />
In my search I stumbled across a fabulous tutorial for a gorgeous girly glam chandy that costs just a few dollars and takes only minutes to make. I thought you might be interested so I am going to share it with you here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/m5muxvqDcNQ/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/m5muxvqDcNQ?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
Is that cute or what? You know you NEED one, right?<br />
<br />
Ikea sells a large white paper lantern (17 inches) for I think $7 and coffee filters are a dollar just about anywhere, so this would be a super cheap, super easy project to glam up a little girls room...or a big girls room for that matter and you could easily hang it from an existing light fixture. If you don't have an Ikea near you check out your local dollar tree. They have smaller lanterns for just a dollar each or check out Oriental trading. They often times have free shipping.<br />
<br />
I hope to be back in a few to share some of those changes on the home front. Until then do yourself a favor and made one of these gorgeous chandys.<br />
<br />
Ciao,<br />

I really just want to share my opinions and knowledge today...with anyone who wants to know...about the subject...as coconut oil seems to be all the rage nowadays, especially in beauty care. Yes, beauty care. <br />
<br />
First, I know there are a lot of people putting tablespoons of the stuff in their coffee each morning because of coconut oil's nutritional benefits. I am not one of those especially because I do not drink coffee...well except for the occasional frappe from McDonalds. Ha, but I think those people are a tad crazy as Coconut oil is fat. I mean, I read one post where the person puts 3 tablespoons of coconut oil in their cup of coffee each morning. I wonder if they know that the whopping 42 grams of fat and 380 calories their drinking per cup far exceeds any health benefit they may receive from the oil itself. Too, I think in about a year of doing this they're going to weigh about 100 lbs. more than when they started their "healthy" coconut oil diet.<br />
<br />
However, I am not here today to criticize anyone's diet. I am here to discuss coconut oil...and precisely to say that NOT ALL COCONUT OILS ARE CREATED EQUAL. It's important that if you are using coconut oils in your skin care regimen or as dietary supplements to know the good oils from the bad. I will share here what you should look for when buying coconut oil.<br />
<br />
Yesterday I mentioned that Crisco's "organic" coconut oil was an imposter. What I mean by that is it is so heavily refined and stripped of it's natural goodness that it really should not be used or consumed at all.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBWrCpV1XK_ugKmIFRUjqZaJvxGsnE9NInuuF53NoKDNsgsm-mV4AEx8Hm6fRMnG4GjFxEi8vvs3nANq3lX1TJaGoGEil3asBZEEWdK4FkBazvhWLYtKzuDc2aNHvAnOIbusE0E9jiFyx-/s1600/0051500550110_A1A3_ItemMaster_type_large.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBWrCpV1XK_ugKmIFRUjqZaJvxGsnE9NInuuF53NoKDNsgsm-mV4AEx8Hm6fRMnG4GjFxEi8vvs3nANq3lX1TJaGoGEil3asBZEEWdK4FkBazvhWLYtKzuDc2aNHvAnOIbusE0E9jiFyx-/s640/0051500550110_A1A3_ItemMaster_type_large.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It's pretty much just saturated fat laden with refining chemicals in a jar...a plastic jar at that and as you know, plastic contains many toxins that are absorbed by the oil and then distributed to your food or your face too. This type of coconut oil is just not good.<br />
<br />
There is another brand of coconut oil that seems to be really popular right now as I have seen it on a lot of beauty blogs and on Pinterest for use in a ton of homemade beauty products. LouAna<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJrIPxnrXxOqwSoEx_DMFnHYV20Hpwv78nl0QByse2dbE-qXy3wbh7ofzNq4E_l6Klu_rludsvPB2goitgieC0zuOJ3_VPKR5PhbsUEm_mqvQn_l5m4bvr2zWJ1WdzqIHoGR7X_PBql6Vk/s1600/coconut%252Boil%252Bcopy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJrIPxnrXxOqwSoEx_DMFnHYV20Hpwv78nl0QByse2dbE-qXy3wbh7ofzNq4E_l6Klu_rludsvPB2goitgieC0zuOJ3_VPKR5PhbsUEm_mqvQn_l5m4bvr2zWJ1WdzqIHoGR7X_PBql6Vk/s640/coconut%252Boil%252Bcopy.jpg" width="452" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
LouAna is also endorsed by a chef which I guess makes people believe that it's good stuff. Can I tell you just by reading the label (because they at least put it on the label, unlike Crisco) that LouAna is highly refined, over processed and lacks the taste, smell and texture of good coconut oil. It's another one JUST LIKE Crisco. Again with this brand, everything that is good about coconut oil has been removed and you are left with chemical laden saturated FAT. It also comes packaged in a plastic jar. When you use this type oil in your diet or in your skin care regimen you are simply putting more toxins in your body. I urge anyone who is using this stuff to STOP. It's really bad for you!!<br />
<br />
Also, please DO NOT sell any of your homemade products that contains this stuff on open market or give it as "gifts" to unsuspecting friends; and, God forbid stop wasting your precious, EXPENSIVE essential oils in this stuff. I'm befuddled how you would pay top dollar for the best essential oils and then mix it in low grade, poor quality stuff like this?...but I digress...<br />
<br />
There are a few things you should look at to determine whether or not the coconut oil you are purchasing has the goods. First, it will come in a glass jar. Glass is pure and will not absorb or emit any chemicals into the product. However that is not enough. There are some coconut oils packaged in glass jars that are just as bad for you as Crisco or LouAna. Spectrum is a brand that carries Organic refined...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb77nwQt1rlFa5j3qBDXrawrm65W5dYZvDr6MP2wBfLj7cjtydJfb8bV1qdussqsCNtRLHH6anWke7RzV25Mz_562L2vmkZBrvPkcB_v9ffdHvdZE8Qy3PKklbgQQ-9rRJMTq8mrakL9Uj/s1600/SPT-00200-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb77nwQt1rlFa5j3qBDXrawrm65W5dYZvDr6MP2wBfLj7cjtydJfb8bV1qdussqsCNtRLHH6anWke7RzV25Mz_562L2vmkZBrvPkcB_v9ffdHvdZE8Qy3PKklbgQQ-9rRJMTq8mrakL9Uj/s320/SPT-00200-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
and Organic Unrefined coconut oil....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQWQmBzEI48IDXsJWUxWZaMh0q7gA3n06GsrYacB6ifAY4DKlo_56n-MLsMNswZ8ZrUVBiP-Da1U8Lv3ENBDkpYIXZtOWLN1pABtfUFy_3I-8pXFRrP9z7_IU0eLBoOvR9foDgqysbrFSc/s1600/Spectrum-Unrefined-Organic-Virgin-Coconut-Oil-022506934511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQWQmBzEI48IDXsJWUxWZaMh0q7gA3n06GsrYacB6ifAY4DKlo_56n-MLsMNswZ8ZrUVBiP-Da1U8Lv3ENBDkpYIXZtOWLN1pABtfUFy_3I-8pXFRrP9z7_IU0eLBoOvR9foDgqysbrFSc/s320/Spectrum-Unrefined-Organic-Virgin-Coconut-Oil-022506934511.jpg" width="187" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The labels look very similar so be careful which one you grab. You don't want REFINED. Besides, spectrum is one of the most expensive brands on the market. Save your money and buy something better.<br />
<br />
Not only will the real deal be packaged in a glass jar but it will have all these words somewhere on the label...UNREFINED, COLD-PROCESSED (or EXPELLER PRESSED), VIRGIN (OR EXTRA-VIRGIN) & ORGANIC...it may even possibly say that it is undeodorized or that it contains coconut flavor and scent. You will also notice a difference in appearance and feel. Good coconut oil is kind of shimmery looking, pure white and will be clear when it melts...not yellow. It will also be solid in any temperature under 76 degrees. There are really no words to describe the feel on your skin. It's very light and supple.<br />
<br />
When you find a brand that has all of these characteristics you have found a good coconut oil, an oil that will have all the health benefits you are looking for. However, I wouldn't go and put 3 tablespoons of the stuff in my coffee every morning if I were you...hehehe. Not unless you are looking to fatten yourself up! <br />
<br />
This is the brand that I use and that I absolutely love.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Notice the glass jar and how the label reads. It's truly the real thing and it smells, tastes and feels AHHHHH-MAZING. Plus it's reasonably priced at $4.99 for 14 oz.<br />
<br />
They even share the fact that their product is safe to use in beauty treatments...<br />
<br />

If you are interested in using this brand, you can find it at ALDI. <br />
<br />
So there you go, if you are using or interested in using coconut oil for anything, be informed and make a wise purchase.<br />

What a lovely day don't you think? Well it was until I was scammed and purchased an imposter.<br />
<br />
As you know, I have been making all sorts of things lately for my little business....homemade soaps, dusting powders and such with all natural, organic ingredients. As I was gathering all my ingredients to make solid lotion bars today I discovered I was out of coconut oil so I ran to the store and purchased this stuff...<br />

<br />
I thought I got a good deal because it was only $7.09 for a 27 oz. jar. It says it's certified organic.and it is sporting a trusted household name...Crisco.<br />
<br />
I noticed at the store that it looked a little different but I figured it was just the packaging. It wasn't until I got home and opened the container that I realized there was something seriously wrong with this oil. Not only did it look totally different from any other organic coconut oil I have ever bought, it didn't have the same lovely coconut aroma, taste or feel either. I was totally disappointed. This was not what I expected...although I should have known something was wrong because it was so much cheaper than the other brands. Don't you know it's one of those things that I should've remembered... you always get what you pay for!!<br />
<br />
Anyway, I did a little research and found out that it truly is an imposter coconut oil. It "may" be made with organic coconuts (which I highly doubt) but it is so processed and refined that there is NO true coconut oil benefits left in it and it certainly should NOT be used in any skin care or hair care product or regimen.<br />
<br />
I wish I would have read all the reviews on Crisco's sight before buying this stuff. That alone would have been enough to leave it on the shelf.<br />
<br />
It's sad that Crisco would market something as pure and organic to deceive everyone. Even worse that they leave a little word liked "refined" off their label to deceive people further. Even if this stuff was made with pure organic coconuts, they have processed it to death, so much so that you are basically left with tasteless, disgusting, good for nothing saturated fat. YUCK!!!<br />
<br />
What's more, in my research I found out that Crisco is owned by the Smuckers Company which supports GMO's and false labeling...hmmm, no kidding....of course I suppose that's old news to everybody but me since I do not normally buy Crisco or Smuckers products.<br />
<br />
Anyway my point today is this...head my warning....DO NOT BUY CRISCO COCONUT OIL!!! It is NOT what you think it is...it is an imposter...it is a WASTE of your hard earned money and it is NOT good for you. PERIOD!!!<br />
<br />
Now I guess it looks like I have pretty much thrown $7.09 away and I am going to have to make another trip to the store today. CRISCO I WANT A REFUND!!<br />
<br />
P.S. This post was not meant to be negative or critical of any company or brand. I am simply sharing my experience so that it will hopefully help some other health conscience, consumer conscience person along the way.<br />
<br />
Have a great one!!<br />
