THE KITCHEN CEILING...

Well I had a pretty productive weekend.

The hubs and kids went to Six Flags with the church group on Saturday.  I probably should have gone with them but walking around a huge amusement park when it's 100 degrees out is just not my idea of fun so I decided to stay home in the comforts of air conditioning and paint the kitchen ceiling.  Believe me when I say that ceiling was in desperate need of a new paint job.  Well see for yourself...

That ceiling was terribly yellowed and grungy...it was just plain nasty.  As a matter of fact every since we moved into this house the entire kitchen has pretty much felt grimy and dirty no matter how much cleaning I would do.  Well, that is until now.  I have finally managed to give just about every paintable surface in this little kitchen a new coat of paint making it feel fresh and best of all clean....

Ahhh, much better!

You may have noticed that the walls also got some new paint. I know the hubs just painted them a few months ago but the Beige Buckhorn color was a little too pink. In this eastern facing room it resembled the color of a baby pig...not quite the look I was going for in here...if you know what I mean.

I had some Pebble Cinder Gray left over from my master bedroom redo so I decided to use it in here and I love it. I have a few minor things left to do in here and then I can get on with the decorating...my favorite part.

What did you do this weekend?

HERE'S MY SIGN...THE ONE I MADE FOR THE KITCHEN

Good morning!  I'm back to show you the finished sign I made for over the sink in the kitchen.

When painting the cabinets earlier this spring I painted over the fruit motif that was on the wooden valance over the sink.  It was cute and very vintage but just not what I wanted there and would have never blended in with bright white cabinets.  However, painting over that motif left that area REALLY bare. I have known for a while that I wanted some kind of lettering or a sign to go there.

I have seen "EAT" signs all over the blogosphere and I like them but perhaps "EAT" is a little overused now so I wanted something different.  I was going to go with "FRESH" using wooden letters from Wal-Mart but later decided that "farm fresh" was a better fit for my kitchen with it's farmhouse style sink and lighting. Of course, I'm sure you figured that out by the little sneak peek of the sign in progress that I gave you last week...

I suffer from a major lack of free time but I was able to get the tracing out of the way Thursday evening and painted the wording out Friday night (which was easier than I thought it would be). Then I distressed it a got it hung on Saturday...

So what do you think?  Do you like it?  WAY better than "EAT" don't ya think?

I love it! It fits perfectly in this little farmhouse kitchen of mine.

My daughter likes it too and told me that no one on my blog would believe that I made this except I show them pictures of it in progress because it looks good enough to be store bought.  Awww, isn't she sweet!

This was a super easy project and didn't cost me a dime.

I got the piece of scrap 1/4" plywood from Pops (my father-in-law) and I had the paint, tracing paper and sanding supplies on hand.  I made the lettering on my computer in the Wordperfect program and printed it out.  The only thing this cost me was a couple hours time.   I love those kinds of projects...QUICK, CHEAP & EASY!

So are there any quick, easy, cheap...and especially cute...projects that you have been working on lately?  Do tell!
