FINITO...NEW BATH REVEAL

I am so happy to inform you all that the bathroom remodel is FINALLY done...FINITO, finished.  Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!

What started out as what I thought would be a somewhat easy, small, weekend (or two) project has taken several months to complete...

My nemesis, the mint green bathroom, has been on my HIT list since the day we bought our little house...mint green is NOT my favorite color...so this little project started with just a fresh coat of white paint on the cabinets, window pane and door, however it quickly turned into a full remodel when I discovered problems with a leaky toilet and loose floor tiles...I will spare you from reading all the gorey details and take you through a little pictorial starting with the REVEAL first...

I had trouble getting a BIG picture of the overall room because this bathroom is sooooo TINY...it is only 4 ft. wide by 6 ft. deep...(can something that small be considered a room...or maybe we should call it a water CLOSET)...LOL!!!

Now onto the before shots...

Besides the toilet and sink, every square inch of this bathroom was green...YUCK!!!...Now let's start this remodel process...

 Stripping the cabinets...

Getting a fresh coat of paint...

Removing FIRST layer of flooring...

 ...and SECOND layer of flooring...

whew, was that a job!!...that was in JULY...and then I waited and waited and WAITED for the hubs to take out the toilet and sink so we could do the rest...he waited until TWO WEEKS before Christmas and on the spur of the moment decided to take the toilet and sink out...I came home from work to this...

Yuuuuuucccckkk...this was TWO WEEKS before Christmas...WHAT WAS HE THINKING?

So the process the race to get everything done before Christmas was on...and I'm glad to report that we made it...IN THE NICK OF TIME...here's the process...

Old tile wall removed and new wall going up...sorry for the quality and lighting of pics...this was all done in the evening or night time hours...

Ahhh, starting to look better...new wall in, wallpaper up, $4.00 brushed nickel thrift store light fixture in and new flooring installed...

Board and battan done and now we are ready for the toilet and sink to go in...hmmm, we could've had this done WAAAAY back in July had the hubs not waited until December to tackle this...what can I say, he's a procrastinator...LOL.

Ahhhh, bathroom LOVE!!!

The BEFORE and AFTER of it all...

I am SOOO glad to be finished with this remodel and am thoroughly enjoying my new bathroom...

Breakdown of costs:

Paint-$30.00
Wood for back wall and board and battan-$60.00
Flooring tile, adhesive & grout-$55.00
Wallpaper-$20.00 (Spanish Tile Pattern) at Lowes
Vanity-$260.00 at Lowes (came with marble sink top)
Faucet (brushed nickel)-$28.00 Lowes
Plumbing necessities (needed some new pipes and fittings)--$50.00
Light fixture-$4.00 (thrift store find)
Halogen light bulbs-$18.00 (I thought the light fixture was a bargain but all three bulbs were blown)
Roman shade-$3.00 GW (just so happened to be the perfect size...Yeah!)

BATHROOM REMODEL...UPDATE

Not long ago I got this BRIGHT idea to remodel our main floor bath...it's a small bath so I figured I could do a remodel in no time...you know, like a week or two...yeah right!...well, I am STILL working on this LITTLE remodel...a month later...and I still have a BUNCH to do...

...now I left off on PART ONE of this remodel with the cabinets, door and window painted a nice white but still needing to rehang the cabinet doors, rip out the SECOND layer of floor tile, and other things...well...GOOD NEWS...the cabinet doors are rehung (minus one hinge... as Ms. Brilliant, MOI...lost it)...

...and... I FINALLY got the second layer of flooring out...

...whew!!!...I am excited to have gotten that second layer of flooring out...it was a real booger ...if you know what I mean...and it took a LOT of work....it was glued down REALLY well...

...now I just have to sand it smooth and prepare it for the new tile...which by the way...I have finally picked out...

I chose this light tan marbly looking ceramic tile...I thought it would compliment the white cabinets and the soon to be board and batten walls well....and also because I SNAGGED it on clearance for only...$11.22 a box...

...but, before I install the new floor I have to rip out the tile wall, take out the sink and toilet, and install the board and batten...wish me luck and....oh and...God SPEED!

A DIRTY LITTLE SECRET---BATHROOM REMODEL PART 1

Hello all you blogging remodelers, decorators, thrifty engineers and altogether fantastic creative ladies (and a few men) out there....I'm sad to say our driveway resurfacing project has once again been put on hold due to all the RAIN we have had here in central Missouri lately....however, today I have a DIRTY LITTLE SECRET to share with you....actually it's a SCARY little secret...dun, dun, dun....

...our U.G.L.Y. little main floor bathroom in all it's GREEN glory....NOT!!!...the entire bathroom is mint green...with the exception of the one white window frame...oh and the toilet and sink...

...This bathroom has been on my hit list ever since we bought this little OLD house late last year...however it was set to be one of the last projects on our list for the summer...then with the putting off of the driveway....AGAIN...I determined to remodel this bathroom now...after all it is a small space and wouldn't take all that much effort to do...YEAH RIGHT!...I always get myself into these sorts of messes...how 'bout you?  Do you ever find yourself in the middle of a project and think "why in the world did I ever think I could do this?...and will I ever get done?"...Yes I said all these things to myself probably after only two hours into the project...

I started with removing the drawers and STRIPPING the cabinet doors...they HAD to be stripped first just to get them off their hinges, as the hinges had about 10 coats of paint on them and I couldn't get them loose without stripping them first....

...once the drawers were out and the doors off...I tackled the floor...(mainly because I ran out of stripper and the stores were closed)...so as I said...we moved onto the floor...

....Oh yes...I was THRILLED to find out that there was more than one layer to be removed...oh joy, oh rapture...CALGON...please take me AWAY....

It took some doing to remove the ceramic tile floor...I would hammer the tiles...then scrape up the loose ones...hammer some more....scrape a little more....

...Yes, this took a while...but alas I finally got the first layer of tile up...WHOO HOO...

...see the second layer....MORE GREEN...hey, I kind of like the retro vibe here...well, maybe NOT so much...after all that hammering and scraping I was pooped...so the second layer...yep, you got it, still there...waiting for the hubby to take out the sink, toilet (and for me to pick out new flooring) before I tackle that...

....what kind of tile or flooring do you think I should go with here?...and what color? is the biggest question...I am at a total loss...the mint green ceramic tile wall behind the sink and toilet is going to have to stay...although at some point in time I am going to try my hand at painting it...so what kind of floor and what color would GO with MINT GREEN?....Oh, boy my head hurts just thinking about it...

In the meantime...I started painting the drawers...

...right here on the dining room table...I removed the hardware...threw down a tarp...and GOT BUSY...

...OH YEAH...I am liking this WHITE sooooo much better...now onto the doors....STAY TUNED for my dirty little secret...PART 2...hopefully coming soon.
